Two jewellers can quote you the same gold rate and still bill you thousands apart. The difference is the making charge — and almost nobody compares it before walking into a store. How we work out these making charges
We do not take a jeweller's word for it, and we do not use a single headline figure. For every brand we manually review and verify each category, then read the published price breakup of many real products on that jeweller's own website — the same breakup you would see at checkout. From those we take the median, so one unusually ornate or unusually plain design cannot distort the result.
Please treat these figures as indicative. A making charge is not a fixed number: it varies by design, by weight, by season and by how well you negotiate. Stone-set and highly detailed pieces routinely sit above the median, while plain bands sit below it. The badge on each row shows how many real products that brand's median is based on — the more items, the more reliable the figure.
